Is Honey Coupon Extension Legit or a Scam? [2020 Review]

Welcome to my Honey Coupon browser extension review! If you are wondering is the Honey coupon extension legit or a scam, you've come to the right place!

First of all, I'm happy that you wound up here because it means you are doing your research. It's the best way to avoid scams and security risks on your computer and to find the best methods to earn money online.

You probably wound up here because you saw an ad for the Honey coupon extension or maybe someone you know recommended it to you.

Honey coupon extension seems to be an easy way to save on online shopping. But is it legit and could it pose a security threat to your browser? Let's find out.

Before we continue, I want you to know that I'm not affiliated with Honey in any way, I just like to check out online money-making opportunities and share my findings with my readers.

So without further ado, let's get on with the review and find out what Honey is about!

What Is Honey Coupon Extension

Honey is a free browser extension that looks for the best coupon codes for thousands of sites online. It also looks for cheaper alternatives available in other stores.

Honey itself earns commissions from stores when you find savings, so they actually do kind of an affiliate marketing.

I don't know about you but I just hate it when I'm on the checkout of an online store and I see there's a space for a discount coupon. And I know I don't have one. I feel like I'm missing out on a deal.

So sometimes I just Google around if I could find one but if you have tried this, you can end up on some pretty sketchy looking sites.

99 times out of 100 you won't find a discount coupon unless the store is advertising one for you. Here's the problem Honey helps you to solve.

The best part is that it's basically fully automated one's you activate it. browser extension looks for the best deals anytime you are on checkout on an online store.

The browser extension is available on all the major browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Edge.

Currently Honey has over 30 000 sites in its library and over 17 million members. According to their website, they have helped people save over $1 billion in online shopping and have rewarded more than $8 million to their members.

Honey was created by Ryan Hudson and they are headquartered in downtown L.A.

Honey Extension Features

The saving coupon finder is just the main element of the extension.

They also have a rewarding system called Honey Gold where they give you gold rewards that you can redeem for gift cards at your favorite stores.

The extension also includes a price history that shows how an item's price has fluctuated in the past so you can decide if it's the right time to buy.

One cool feature is their droplist that tracks prices for you. Just add items you are planning to buy and Honey will notify when there's a price drop.

Finally Honey also offers a cool feature for shopping in Amazon. Amazon is so full of items these days that it's almost impossible to find the best price for an item. Honey automatically looks for the best deal of the day on Amazon.

Honey also offers an app for Android and iOS so you can find the same features while shopping on your smartphone as well.

How Does Honey Work?

So how does honey actually work? Well, it's actually really simple to use.

You just install the extension by going to their website and click on the Add Honey button at the header menu:

You can also install the extension by going to your browser extension store directly and searching for Honey.

What you need to do next is to create an account and login. You don't have to create a separate account since you can use your Google, Facebook, PayPal, or Apple accounts to login but there is still the option to just use your preferred email.

Once the extension is installed, there will be a small orange Honey logo button on your browser extensions.

When you activate it, the extension will automatically search for the best coupons and compare prizes with over 30 000 online stores on the background.

The extension will even test the coupons and coupon combinations for the best possible deals, so you can rest assured that you have the best deal online. Bye-bye buyer's remorse!

So any time you head to the check out on an online store, the extension will pop up and show any potential coupons and how much savings potential you have. All you have to do is to click "apply coupons" and you are all set.

Is Honey Browser Extension Legit?

From what I've seen, the service seems to be legit and trustworthy.

You might be wondering how Honey makes money, what's their business model?

They actually make money by getting commissions from the stores so it's in their interest to actually offer the best deals available.

The stores get customers from their competitors when Honey alerts users for a better deal, so it's profitable for all parties.

Honey Security

Honey seems to be serious about protecting user data and they don't disclose any of your information to the client stores.

Just beware that any browser extension can pose a security risk for your browser as the browser developers can't vouch for their security.

That said, using browsers extensions that are available in the browsers web stores is usually safe because there are precautions for any harmful software. The extensions get checked thoroughly before being accepted into the stores.

It's still always a good idea to keep your browser, extensions, and antivirus software up to date so there are security compromises when browsing the web.

Is Honey Worth It?

Now the question is, is Honey worth using it? Well considering that it costs nothing and on average saves over $100 yearly for their users it's definitely a good way to save a few bucks here and there.

Just have realistic expectations. It's not going to save you tons of money or going to help you earn a living online if that's what you might after.

Also, even though the extension has a huge database, it mainly seems to include larger online stores that sell physical products.

If you consume a lot of digital products like I do, there might not be as many coupons available as you hoped for.

But since it costs nothing, you kind of have nothing to lose, other than another extension that monitors your behavior in your browser.

While I don't see Honey as a real security issue, I always encourage to beware that every "free" software or service you use, makes money off of you one way or another and gathers data about you.

You just have to take their word they keep it safe and hope they have secure systems.

Did You Know You Can Also Earn Money Online?

I'm just throwing this out there. Since you are looking for ways to save money online I thought you might be interested in how to make money online. Honest money, not some scammy MLM or get-rich-quick scheme.

You can make money online by writing about stuff you are passionate about. Me and thousands of other people are doing it all around the world.

I'm sure you're familiar with blogging, right? This is a lot like running a blog with the important distinction that instead of writing just about random stuff, we do research on what subjects people are interested in.

When you write about stuff that's in demand, especially if there's not a lot of competition, you can rest assured that people will find and enjoy your content.

"That's great but how does that help me make money?". Well, I'm sure you are aware that most websites create revenue in one way or another.

There are several ways to monetize a sit once you get traffic to it. You can display ads, you can sell your own products or you can do affiliate marketing.

I personally prefer affiliate marketing, because the only thing I need to do is to help my visitors solve a problem they are having and connect them with the right offers or products.

Everyone wins in this model. The reader finds a solution, I earn a commission and the company gets a customer. What's not great about that?

If this sounds like something you want to learn more about, check out my Wealthy Affiliate review for more information and consider joining my free 7-day course where I walk you through the initial steps of creating a money-making website of your own.

Yeah, this is a shameless plug but I promise it's worth your time if you any interest in this kind of thing!

Conclusion

I hope you found my Honey extension review useful and it helped you decide if it's something you want to use. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in the comments section below and I'll get back to you asap.

Honey definitely seems like a handy tool for getting some savings while online shopping. I especially like the simplicity of its use.

Just have realistic expectations and I'm sure you will find the Honey extension very useful.

One more word of warning is that I've personally found that many of these apps and extensions that offer the best deals are notorious for feeding your shopping spree.

So if you are someone who already has trouble with buying too much stuff they don't need, I would actually recommend not installing the extension and start focusing on getting your shopping behavior in check. This will save you much more money in the long run.

Only buying what you need and focusing your time and effort in earning and investing will net you a lot more freedom in the long run. It might even fill up that hole inside you that you are trying to fill with all the stuff.

But I'm not here the preach to you what to do with your money. But I've walked that path already and realized that most material things don't bring happiness, only more stress.

Thanks for reading and if you found the post useful, remember to share on social media!

The Honey coupon extension is a new one on me but I really found your review a great insightful read.
I must admit it does sound like something I need in my life! when you mentioned getting to the checkout and seeing that little box for the coupon code, I am always the one doing a search for that code!
So glad I came across your review.

Glad you found the review useful! Yeah I think Honey can help you save real money if you do a lot of shopping online. Just don’t let it put you into a shopping frenzy 😉

Hi there,

Great review of Honey Coupon, it’s not often you get all the information you need from one article, so congrats on achieving that!

I really need to start using that product, especially if it saves $100 on average per year.

Looking forward to seeing what you write next.

I heard about the Honey extension some time ago and I was considering installing it. It seemed like a great deal, but then again, I do not shop so much online, so I am not sure if it is really worth it for me. Or if I install it, I may end doing a lot more online shopping than I used to do, having discount coupons available 😉 so I end up spending more money, lol. It seems to be worth it, though, if the Honey extension can save you lots of money, and you make most of your purchases online, then it is indeed worth it to install this extension,

Thanks for taking the time to comment Christine! There is definitely risk that saving money can actually cause you spend more money in the long run but if you have your shopping behavior in control, I wouldn’t worry about that too much.

Wow
This seems to be the best tool for finding great deals.
I usually look for good deals and I think getting such an extension will be time saving too for me since I spend a long time searching for these deals.
Thank you for letting us know
